Kirsten Wechslberger

Ich bin Künstlerin (Bachelor of Arts), ausgebildete Kunsttherapeutin und arbeite seit über 20 Jahren an der Schnittstelle von Kunst, Bildung und sozialer Praxis.

Meine Arbeit verbindet künstlerische Erfahrung, pädagogische Kompetenz und kunsttherapeutisch inspirierte Methoden mit fundierter Expertise in Antidiskriminierungsarbeit, Gleichstellung und Diversitätsentwicklung.

Ich begleite Einzelpersonen und Gruppen in kreativen Prozessen, die Selbstwirksamkeit stärken, neue Perspektiven eröffnen und persönliche sowie gesellschaftliche Entwicklung unterstützen. Dabei verstehe ich kreative Arbeit nicht als isolierten Prozess, sondern als Teil sozialer Realität – eingebettet in Fragen von Macht, Zugang, Teilhabe und Gerechtigkeit.

Erfahrung & Praxis

Ich habe mit sehr unterschiedlichen Menschen und Gruppen gearbeitet – sowohl in Namibia als auch in Deutschland.

Besonders prägend war meine Arbeit in Namibia, wo ich:

  • als Dozentin für Konzeptkunst an der Universität Namibia tätig war
  • das John Muafangejo Art Centre leitete (inkl. Projekt-, Finanz- und Personalverantwortung)
  • das Namibia Crafts Centre / Omba Gallery mitverantwortete (Kuration, Organisation, Öffentlichkeitsarbeit)

Darüber hinaus war ich über viele Jahre ehrenamtlich in verschiedenen künstlerischen Netzwerken und Initiativen aktiv, unter anderem als Vorstandsmitglied und Mitgründerin mehrerer Organisationen im Bereich Kunst und Kultur.

Diese Arbeit war eng verbunden mit dem Aufbau von Strukturen, der Förderung von Künstler*innen und der Stärkung kultureller Teilhabe in einem interkulturellen Kontext. Sie prägt meine Arbeitsweise bis heute – insbesondere im Hinblick auf kollektive Prozesse, Selbstorganisation und Vielfalt.

Soziale & professionelle Arbeit in Deutschland

In Deutschland arbeite ich heute u. a.:

  • als Geschäftsführung (Schwerpunkt Finanzen) bei Paula Panke e.V.
  • als Projektleitung im Frauenladen Paula
  • im Bereich Zufluchtswohnungen für gewaltbetroffene Frauen, Mädchen und TINA*
  • in der Entwicklung und Umsetzung von Schutz-, Empowerment- und Bildungsangeboten

Meine Arbeit bewegt sich an der Schnittstelle von kreativer Praxis, sozialer Arbeit, Organisationsentwicklung und Antigewaltarbeit.

Neben der direkten Arbeit mit Menschen umfasst meine Tätigkeit auch:

  • konzeptionelle Entwicklung von Projekten
  • strategische Planung und Finanzverantwortung
  • Zusammenarbeit mit Verwaltung, Politik und Förderstrukturen
  • Qualitätsentwicklung und Weiterentwicklung von Angeboten

Gesellschaftspolitisches Engagement & Diversity-Kompetenz

Meine Arbeit ist eng verbunden mit gesellschaftspolitischem Engagement und struktureller Veränderungsarbeit.

Ich habe u. a.:

  • als Sprecherin für Gleichstellung, Kultur, Integration und Partizipation in der BVV Pankow gearbeitet
  • im Beirat für Partizipation und Integration sowie im Frauenbeirat Pankow mitgewirkt
  • an Strategien zur Diversitätsentwicklung, Antidiskriminierung und Barriereabbau gearbeitet

Diese Erfahrungen ermöglichen mir, sensibel und professionell mit vielfältigen Gruppen, unterschiedlichen Lebensrealitäten und komplexen sozialen Dynamiken zu arbeiten.

Arbeitsweise & Schwerpunkte

Ich arbeite ressourcenorientiert, partizipativ und diskriminierungssensibel.

Meine Workshops verbinden kreative Praxis mit Reflexion und schaffen Räume für:

ENGLISH VERSION

I am an artist (Bachelor of Arts), a trained art therapist, and have been working for over 20 years at the intersection of art, education, and social practice.

My work combines artistic experience, pedagogical competence, and art therapy–informed methods with solid expertise in anti-discrimination, gender equality, and diversity development.

I support individuals and groups through creative processes that strengthen self-efficacy, open up new perspectives, and foster both personal and social development. I understand creative work not as an isolated activity, but as part of social reality—embedded in questions of power, access, participation, and justice.

Experience & Practice

I have worked with a wide range of individuals and groups in both Namibia and Germany.

My work in Namibia has been particularly formative. There, I:

  • worked as a lecturer in conceptual art at the University of Namibia
  • led the John Muafangejo Art Centre (including project, financial, and staff management)
  • co-managed the Namibia Crafts Centre / Omba Gallery (curation, organization, public relations)

In addition, I was actively involved for many years in voluntary work within artistic networks and initiatives, including board and founding roles in several arts and culture organizations.

This work was closely connected to building structures, supporting artists, and strengthening cultural participation in an intercultural context. It continues to shape my approach today, especially regarding collective processes, self-organization, and diversity.

Social & Professional Work in Germany

In Germany, I currently work, among other roles:

  • in executive management (focus on finance) at Paula Panke e.V.
  • as project lead at Frauenladen Paula
  • in refuge housing for women, girls, and TINA* affected by violence
  • in the development and implementation of protection, empowerment, and educational programs

My work operates at the intersection of creative practice, social work, organizational development, and anti-violence work.

In addition to direct work with people, my responsibilities include:

  • conceptual development of projects
  • strategic planning and financial management
  • collaboration with administration, politics, and funding bodies
  • quality development and program evaluation

Socio-Political Engagement & Diversity Competence

My work is closely connected to socio-political engagement and structural change.

I have:

  • served as spokesperson for gender equality, culture, integration, and participation in the district assembly of Pankow
  • been a member of advisory boards for participation & integration and for women’s affairs
  • contributed to strategies for diversity development, anti-discrimination, and accessibility

These experiences enable me to work professionally and sensitively with diverse groups, complex social dynamics, and different lived realities.

Approach & Focus

My work is resource-oriented, participatory, and discrimination-sensitive.

My workshops combine creative practice with reflection and create spaces for:

  • self-awareness and expression
  • strengthening resources and resilience
  • exchange and collective learning
  • perspective shifts and personal development

I work with people with and without prior artistic experience and adapt formats to the specific context.
